The City Jacket by RON Dorf is a Well-Made Waterproof That is Perfect For the Bike

If you’re riding regularly and live in a wet climate, sooner or later you’re going to need to wear a rain jacket.city jacket But not just any rain jacket: you want one that will protect your skin, keep you warm, but also look good and be easy to move in while you ride. The city jacket is all about that, a great-looking, well-made waterproof that is perfect for the bike.

The ribbed cuffs and waistband are made from the same fabric as the body of the jacket so they’re soft on your skin and stretch with you to give a close fit without pinching or chafing.city jacket There’s a small pocket in the left arm cuff for your ignition key, and the jacket is finished with a Swiss-made anti-tear zip with a RON DORFF engraved puller.

It’s a lovely looking jacket with the sort of classic, tapered look that would have been perfect for mods in the early ‘60s. It’s also quite narrow in the body and arms, so if you’re not a big guy you might find it a bit snug. In a size large I found it sized up nicely, and was comfortable on the bike.

This is a jacket that really is designed for wearing with your bike kit and there are popper-fastened loops to attach it to your trousers. It’s also designed with a hood that fits over most helmets, although the chin strap of my Endura Cervélo is a little short to go completely over it. This doesn’t stop the hood from working very well, but it does mean there are some areas where you can feel cold air escaping and you might need a beanie to cover your head.

The main feature is that the jacket is both waterproof and breathable, so you can use it on a ride in any conditions. Underarm vents, a storm vent at the back and mesh paneling in the sleeves all work to make sure that you don’t overheat while you ride. And when you’re stopped the hood can be folded and zipped into the collar so that you get full protection from wind and rain.

It’s a very high quality garment, which feels like it should cost a lot more than it does. It’s ideal for commuters or anyone who rides regularly, and it will look as smart walking into work or the pub as it does while you’re riding. It’s a little heavy for my liking and I’d prefer more reflective panels, but if you’re looking for a waterproof that will keep you dry on a regular commute or just when you’re out and about it’s hard to beat the city jacket. I’d even consider using it for relaxed gravel or MTB rides if I lived in a rainy area. It’s a good backup for your main bike jacket, too. The only thing I’d change is the hood design to make it more suitable for most helmets.
